In astonishingly simple terms, there are three fundamental plans employed. You need to be agile enough to switch tactics quickly as the action of the match unfolds.

The Blockade

This consists of assembling a 6-deep wall of pieces, or at least as deep as you might manage, to barricade in the opponent’s checkers that are on your 1-point. This is deemed to be the most adequate strategy at the start of the game. You can assemble the wall anywhere within your 11-point and your two-point and then move it into your home board as the match advances.

The Blitz

This is comprised of locking your home board as fast as possible while keeping your opponent on the bar. i.e., if your challenger tosses an early 2 and shifts one checker from your 1-point to your 3-point and you then roll a 5-5, you will be able to play six/one six/one 8/3 eight/three. Your competitor is now in big-time difficulty seeing that they have two pieces on the bar and you have closed half your inside board!

The Backgame

This tactic is where you have two or more pieces in your opponent’s inner board. (An anchor spot is a point consisting of at a minimum two of your pieces.) It would be used when you are decidedly behind as it greatly improves your circumstances. The strongest areas for anchors are near your opponent’s smaller points and also on abutting points or with a single point seperating them. Timing is critical for an effectual backgame: besides, there’s no point having 2 nice anchor spots and a complete wall in your own home board if you are then required to break up this right away, while your opponent is shifting their checkers home, owing to the fact that you do not have anyother extra pieces to shift! In this case, it is more favorable to have checkers on the bar so that you are able to preserve your position up till your opposer gives you a opportunity to hit, so it can be a excellent idea to try and get your opposerto hit them in this situation!
