As we dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of talent and luck. The goal is to move your chips safely around the game board to your inside board while at the same time your opposing player shifts their checkers toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With competing player checkers moving in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the requirement for specific techniques at specific times. Here are the two final Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the aim of the blocking plan is to hamper the opponents ability to move their chips, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely block any activity of the opposing player by creating a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The competitor’s chips will either get hit, or end up in a bad position if he at all tries to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be built anyplace between point two and point 11 in your board. Once you have successfully constructed the prime to block the activity of your competitor, your competitor does not even get to toss the dice, and you move your pieces and roll the dice yet again. You’ll win the game for sure.

The Back Game Technique

The goals of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game strategy are very similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions in hope to better your odds of succeeding, but the Back Game strategy relies on seperate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game technique is commonly utilized when you’re far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this technique, you have to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot late in the game. This technique is more complex than others to play in Backgammon seeing as it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the checkers are moved is partly the result of the dice toss.
