In exceptionally simple terms, there are 3 fundamental techniques used. You must be agile enough to switch tactics instantly as the action of the match unfolds.

The Blockade

This comprises of creating a 6-deep wall of checkers, or at least as thick as you can manage, to block in the competitor’s checkers that are on your 1-point. This is judged to be the most suitable procedure at the start of the game. You can create the wall anyplace inbetween your 11-point and your 2-point and then shuffle it into your home board as the match progresses.

The Blitz

This involves closing your home board as quickly as as you can while keeping your competitor on the bar. i.e., if your opponent tosses an early two and moves one piece from your one-point to your 3-point and you then toss a five-five, you can play 6/1 6/1 8/3 eight/three. Your competitor is then in big-time dire straits since they have 2 checkers on the bar and you have closed half your inner board!

The Backgame

This course of action is where you have two or higher checkers in your competitor’s inner board. (An anchor spot is a position consisting of at a minimum 2 of your checkers.) It would be played when you are decidedly behind as it much improves your chances. The best locations for anchors are towards your opponent’s smaller points and also on adjacent points or with one point in between. Timing is important for a competent backgame: besides, there’s no reason having 2 nice anchor spots and a solid wall in your own inner board if you are then forced to dismantle this right away, while your competitor is shifting their pieces home, considering that you do not have other extra checkers to move! In this situation, it is more tolerable to have checkers on the bar so that you are able to preserve your position until your competitor provides you a chance to hit, so it will be a wonderful idea to try and get your competitor to get them in this situation!
