As we dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of talent and luck. The aim is to shift your chips carefully around the game board to your inner board and at the same time your opposing player shifts their checkers toward their home board in the opposing direction. With opposing player checkers heading in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the need for particular tactics at particular times. Here are the 2 final Backgammon techniques to complete your game.

The Priming Game Strategy

If the aim of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to move his chips, the Priming Game strategy is to absolutely block any movement of the opposing player by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get bumped, or result a battered position if he/she ever attempts to leave the wall. The ambush of the prime can be built anywhere between point two and point eleven in your board. After you have successfully built the prime to stop the movement of the competitor, your opponent does not even get to roll the dice, and you shift your checkers and roll the dice again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Tactic

The objectives of the Back Game technique and the Blocking Game tactic are similar – to harm your competitor’s positions with hope to better your chances of winning, however the Back Game strategy uses seperate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game technique is often employed when you are far behind your competitor. To play Backgammon with this plan, you need to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This tactic is more complex than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your checkers and how the chips are moved is partly the outcome of the dice roll.
